Behind the Pink Curtain

Hi Sweetspotters! After 4 and a half years behind the pink curtain of Sweetspot, it is a thrill to launch this blog and have the opportunity to talk to you directly. I look forward to giving you the inside scoop on what goes on behind the scenes, my favourite sweet finds, and some of the odd things I find along the way. You’ll quickly learn that I have a penchant for infomercials, so stay tuned for reviews on those products you were privately curious about but afraid (or too smart) to order for yourself. Also, in a few months we will be enhancing our site so that you can post your own comments, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say too.
But I do have to digress away from the land of consumption, to tell you about my current obsession: the ever-so-inspiring, brilliant (and handsome) new US President-elect, Barack Obama.
What does that have to do with Sweetspot, you might ask? While the world watched in awe and admiration as he swept to victory, I watched proud (and teary eyed) thinking about how meaningful his success is to me, and to so many people around the world. Of course there are all the obvious reasons why this is so monumental. But I think there is one very simple message that resonates with anybody, regardless of their background, or colour of their skin. Here is a man, who started with no clear advantages (money, family, or otherwise) and he made his achievements through hard work, a focus on education, and the love of the people around him.
It’s a story I can relate to well. I’ve had a life of many ups and downs. And when I started Sweetspot in my one-bedroom apartment, it was with little more than a computer a big idea, and lots of passion. And it was through a lot of hard work, support from those around me, and the enthusiasm of you, the readers, that got us where we are today. And I never forgot that.
At Sweetspot, as in life, there is so much sweetness around us, so I look forward to sharing some of it with you in the weeks to come.
