Hi Sweetmamas! Welcome to the wonderful world of my blog. After many years of the swinging single life, I settled down a couple of years ago with my darling husband. And with that came the “3 for the price of 1” package, in the form of two adorable, mostly well-behaved, step-sons.
As I quickly learned, the life of a step-mom is unique, filled with its own set of challenges (as in “You’re not my mom, so you can’t tell me what to do!”) and benefits (a place to ship the kids off to every other week…not bad!). I look forward to sharing my trials and tribulations with you each week.
This was a good week. Actually I’d be inclined to call it a great week. We just got back from what I’d like to call Heaven, Nirvana, or Crack for Kids, but it’s actually Club Med. We visited the family resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. This is not the Club Med I remember. This resort just received a $30 million makeover and it shows. It is beautifully done, while still maintaining the casual, laid back atmosphere. And with the option of putting your kids in camp for all, or part of the day, you can actually call it a vacation. They have everything from sailing, kayaking, and tennis, to trapeze (there’s nothing cuter than seeing your little ones fly through the air suspended to cables), and even a rollerblading rink (with ramps, jumps and all).
And then there’s the food…I think we are all still suffering from food hangovers. It is buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the choices they are aplenty. Of course the prudent thing to do would be to head towards the healthy ones but that would be too boring. Why go for fresh fruit, when you can visit the fresh chocolate fountain instead?
In the last three years, I’ve traveled many times with the monkeys (aka children) and we’ve learned our lesson the hard way (their favourite part of the villa we rented in the south of France was the junk yard in the backyard….enough said). But I can honestly say that Club Med is not only a great value, but a great choice that pleases both parents and tots.
Now it’s back to reality though, so stay tuned for more from the step-mom….
