Forever in Blue Jeans

canada (Jan.22.09)

When I found out I was pregnant, I made a personal oath to maintain a certain level of style (no muumuu's for me).  While my physical (and emotional) state have me leaning towards my Lulu's and leggings, there are times when lounge wear won't do.

I've always been more casual than corporate, so jeans are a major staple in my wardrobe.  So I was about 5 minutes pregnant when I started scouring the stores and the Internet for great maternity jeans.  So far I've found a few great pairs that meet my different needs and moods:

Skinny - I had trouble finding Skinny maternity jeans in Toronto, but I found a great US website that has a great range of designer maternity jeans, Sierra Lane Maternity (www.sierramaternity.com).  I found a great pair of Sevens (my favourite designer brand).  The style is Roxanne, and they come in a variety of different washes.  I went for the New York Dark.

Casual/Flare
- As much as I love my designer jeans, I need to balance the budget (trust me...I've done my part in stimulating the economy).  So I went on the Gap Maternity site to see what they had to offer.  I found this great pair of vintage flare jeans, and they were even on sale!  It's a bit of pain to order since you have to phone in (they can't process Canadian credit cards online) but well worth it.  And if you have a US address you can ship to, you can reduce the shipping and duty charge (sorry Canada Customs!).

Spring/Summer (ok, warm weather may be off in the distance, but I'll be ready) - As this pregnancy goes on, I anticipate I'll be even more in need of a pick-me-up (and a suck-me-in).  So I've set my sights on these Paige Maternity Laurel Canyon Low Rise Jeans.  Yes, it will be another indulgence, but pregnancy has generally lowered my shopping mojo so I don't feel so bad.

And not only did I uncover some sweet finds, I also discovered that I LOVE maternity jeans.  First of all, they are so comfortable.  No need to try to suck in your stomach when they've added a convenient little pouch to keep it warm and cozy.  Next, no buttons, zippers are other impediments to comfort.  It's like being a kid again, not to mention it's great post-manicure...you don't need to ask the manicurist to do up your pants for you.  And finally, you know that annoying little pokey thing that sticks out from the zipper cover (and seems to poke holes in all of my shirts).  Gone!

Between you and me, I may be wearing these jeans long past child birth (hey, it's also an excuse to bring down my cost-per-wear!).
