Confessions of a (Soon to Be) SweetMama

Hi. My name is Jes. And I'm a pregnant lady.

You might know me from over here (although I work behind the scenes for SweetMama and SweetHome as well). But the truth is, I've been keeping the fact that I'm six-and-a-half months pregnant under wraps (at least on the Internet... it would be hard to do now in real life unless I want to invest in a half-dozen muumuus).

And since I'm just the latest of the Sweetspot Staff to be bitten with the baby bug, SweetMama Nadine asked me to compile some of my favourite things that have been helping me get through the bumps of carrying the bump. (Other than pizza, cookies and pints of ice cream, of course.)

Elle Macpherson Intimates Maternelle Maternity and Nursing Bra
About a month ago, I was treated to a bra fitting at the absolutely amazing Secrets From Your Sister in Toronto. Up until this point, I had been "guesstimating" my bra size and stuffing boobage into ill-fitting old bras. Bad idea. After a super-attentive fitting, I learned not only how to wear a bra properly (hey, I don't have any real sisters), but also what to look for in a maternity bra. After trying on about a half dozen, I fell in love with this one. Not only does does it satisfy my love of pretty, girly things (I got it in lilac), but its adjustable strap means I can go up and down in size and wear it even after the baby is born. Awesome!

Maternal America Maternity Jeans
Jeans are such a staple of my normal wardrobe that not being able to fit into my old ones meant I felt (a lot) less like myself. But as soon as I tried these on, I was sold. Yes, the elastic waistband is a wonderful thing, but I also loved the feel of the soft, stretchy denim, dark wash and skinny (without being too skinny) cut.

Mamma Mio Tummy Rub Oil
I know, I know. Stretch Marks: I'll probably get them. But that doesn't mean I can't wage war on them for the upcoming months. My weapon of choice? This lovely-smelling oil. Not only is it all natural (so I don't have to fear harming "the bean"), but it makes my skin feel soft and supple (and saves me from itchy-belly syndrome). And so far, so good!

Dove Spa Maternity Massage
Are you in Toronto? Are you pregnant? Then do not pass go, do not collect $200: Go directly to the Dove Spa and get yourself one (or thirty) of these. For one perfect hour, I was treated to having every ache and pain in my body taken care of  (and I have a lot of aches and pains). I think it would also make a great gift for any mom to be.  I could seriously go for one of these everyday of the week (HINT HINT TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY READING THIS!).

Have any tips and tricks for getting through pregnancy? Anything that made your maternity easier? Log in and let me know!
