About Sweetmama Editor
Nadine Silverthorne’s love of journaling began in Grade One with the entry, “I am the greatest dancer!” Two babies (and countless diaper changes) later, she has found her home away from home as editor of SweetMama. Don’t miss her humorous bi-weekly accounts of the joys and pains of working while raising them fabulous.

While the types of events I go to on the SweetMama side are quite different than those attended by my Sweetspot counterparts, I still have a lot of fun. Yesterday I was invited to the launch of Safety 1st's amazing (and important) new development: The Complete Air convertible car seat with Air Protect technology.
In side impact crashes, there is no trunk or hood of the car to buckle in. It's a direct impact and most car seats are not designed to protect fragile wee heads in this event. The Air Protect technology was truly impressive in its impact shock distribution and you could really sense the passion when Ryan from Safety 1st spoke about the development process.
At $300, I didn't immediately run to the car and toss my death traps old models out of the backseat. But if I were a mom-to-be, I would consider this investment that will grow with your child from 5 to 40 lbs rear-facing and up to 50 lbs forward-facing. Available in McKenna (classic, like our own McKenna) or Harvest (a punchy brown/orange combo) and exclusive to Babies"R"Us.
Now, for some behind the scenes fun stuff...

The Spread
Mom-journalists are always looking for coffee, water and something to nibble. If you have all three, you're golden. Bonus points if you also have chocolate.

The Product
We see a lot of products, so if you got us all the way to your event, the item you're pushing better be good. Your presentation should keep us awake or on our toes too. This one did not disappoint.

The Guest List
It's always good to invite a sleep doula (or in this case THE Sleep Doula) to pacify any babes-in-arms. (Baby Alia courtesy of my buddy Maureen from www.weewelcome.com.) I love seeing all the media mommies, including Dana Reinke from Today's Parent, and Jennifer Reynolds from Canadian Family, to name but a few.

The Colleague
While it's nice to see the faces of our friends and friendly competitors (and we all seem to admire each other), it's always a treat to have a colleague, just for back-up. Here I am (tiptoeing) next to Cat Margulis, author of our Baby Abroad kid-friendly travel blog.
Oh and number 5 would be The Takeaway, which in this case was an amazing Safety 1st gift pack (sitting on Jes's desk this morning) that I forgot to photograph in my excitement.
