About Sweetmama Editor
Nadine Silverthorne’s love of journaling began in Grade One with the entry, “I am the greatest dancer!” Two babies (and countless diaper changes) later, she has found her home away from home as editor of SweetMama. Westin Trillium House
What's not to love about The Westin Trillium House? Our room at the Westin was palacial, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen (perfect for kids, who can't wait until restaurant pancakes are served) and three TVs. I was so looking forward to their ubiquitous "heavenly beds," but a quick look at the height of them meant I would be "sleeping" WITH my kids (read: wedged in between and waking up for hourly checks) in the king size, while lucky Tante got a room to herself.
The staff were beyond accommodating, choosing a movie was a cinch, and the rooms had the kind of closet space a downtown Toronto-dweller only dreams about. With a push-button fireplace and temperature controls in the master sweet, we could choose from warm and toasty to cool and crisp (I like my sheets cold). We didn't get the chance to check out the Westin Kids Club, games room or the on-site Oliver and Bonaccini restaurant (which seemed constantly busy), but definitely plan to on future visits. It's family-friendly hotel with the sleek, modern vibe of a boutique hotel.
The grounds have everything a parent could want, from a playground (just try to pry my son out of the bulldozer) to Plunge! Aquatic Centre (which we never quite made it to, but were often entertained by the people swimming outdoors in the cold). The dining options are numerous and there's even a pretty decent grocery store -- all without ever needing the car!
