About Sweetmama Editor
Nadine Silverthorne’s love of journaling began in Grade One with the entry, “I am the greatest dancer!” Two babies (and countless diaper changes) later, she has found her home away from home as editor of SweetMama. Don’t miss her humorous bi-weekly accounts of the joys and pains of working while raising them fabulous.

Buddha Dog
Time for lunch and one last stop on our way home. Buddha Dog on Pine St. in Collingwood takes the concept of hot dogs to the next level. Made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients, you choose a mini dog ($2 each), and then top it with your choice of sauces ($0.25 each) and cheeses should you choose.
I went for the Dog of the Day, a Tamarind/date/molasses sauce with hot mozzarella (from the cheese shop next door). Yum! The kids had naked dogs, though the sweet Cherry Ketchup would have been my choice for them. Then I tried an Apple Cider Chutney (made at the cider factory in Thornbury) with Cheddar. Even yummier. My sister opted for a Spicy Jerk with Cheddar and then a Spicy Cashew number that was out-of-this-world good. For dessert, more pomme paradise, Calvados Apple Crepes for the grown-ups (a bit spicy for kids due to the ginger in it, even without the booze) and award-winning tarts.
With loads of room for strollers and roamers, Buddha Dog is an ideal family restaurant. Have to try the Toronto location now!
We came home exhausted, but relaxed, well-fed and closer than ever. There was so much we didn't get to, but I was still impressed with all we accomplished and discovered for the first time. Start planning now for next fall or -- better yet -- next weekend!
