Last week, I mentioned my extreme love of the holidays. So obviously holiday specials are tops on my list of things to do for the holidays (shop, decorate, bake, send out cards, visit The Bay to see the windows, get picture with Santa, have holiday songs on repeat, watch specials, and, oh yeah, wrap gifts).

So it should come as no surprise that I am very traditional in my love of Christmas films: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Christmas Story, White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, A Charlie Brown Christmas and the lone newcomer -- Elf.

But after spending an afternoon showing my kids commercials of toys that were huge when I was a kid -- My Buddy, Teddy Ruxpin, Monchhichi, but most importantly, Cabbage Patch Kids (and the riots that ensued) -- I realized I should probably figure out what kids' specials were on and when. You know, so I could continue with Operation They Must Love Christmas.

CBC: Daily holiday specials, though it seems that they run at 8PM (not good for those with young kids) every night except Saturdays (hockey) and Sundays, when they have several in a row starting at 5PM. Standouts: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Sunday, December 20 at 7:30PM; all-day holiday madness starting with The Wonderful World of Disney Parade on Friday, December 25 at 10AM.

Treehouse: While their 12 Days of Fun campaign ended on the 12th, it seems that they are re-airing many of those specials throughout the month of December. What Iove about their schedule is the holiday specials with your kids' favourites, like Dora, Caillou and Elmo (in kid-friendly time slots). Standouts: Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Friday, December 18 at 9AM ET and 6PM ET; Elmo's Christmas Countdown, Saturday, December 19 at 9AM ET; Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Saturday, December 19 at 2PM ET and 7PM ET (in case you miss it at naptime!).

Playhouse Disney: Grab some cocoa, sit back and enjoy a Snow Day on Saturday, December 19, beginning at 6AM. Playhouse Disney presents snow and holiday-themed episodes of viewer favourite series, including Handy Manny, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, My Friends Tigger and Pooh and Franny’s Feet, and featuring the premiere of new episodes of Imagination Movers, Special Agent Oso and Strawberry Shortcake.

(PS: My kids are obsessed with Handy Manny and his talking tools. Confession: I'm kinda sweet on the cartoon Wilmer Valderama...)

Family Channel: Those with older kids should make note of a Hannah Montana marathon on Monday, December 28 beginning at 1:30PM. In fact there are different marathons each day of that week I like to call the Dead Zone, to help keep your tween or pre-tween adequately entertained. (Yes, Jo Bros, Demi Lovato and gang all get their own full day of screen time.)

Happy Holiday Watching!
