About Sweetmama Editor
Nadine Silverthorne’s love of journaling began in Grade One with the entry, “I am the greatest dancer!” Two babies (and countless diaper changes) later, she has found her home away from home as editor of SweetMama. Don’t miss her humorous bi-weekly accounts of the joys and pains of working while raising them fabulous.

(Aug.02.10)
Sam recently wrote about what she wanted for her birthday, on SweetLife. My birthday just passed too (my 36th) and I didn't really think about anything glam that I might want for myself at all. This is because in a few short weeks, my daughter will be three -- and I am thinking of little else.
Lucy is currently obsessed with all things mermaid -- Ariel to be exact. And try as I might to convince her that a Fairy Wonderland Party is a great idea, my willful girl just shrugs it off. "I'm having an ARIEL PARTY!" she sings emphatically. I'm thinking we can meet in the middle, so here's what I have my eye on to make #3 the best birthday yet.

Party Décor
I am obsessed with stationery on Etsy.com. Somewhere between these adorable, customizable hats (US $22.50/6), and a DIY, everything-in-one kit (US $25), my inner craft geek kicks in.

The Party Dress
This pretty number (US $20), by Lilian Belle, will be just the thing to set the tone. The tone being: "I'm a mermaid princess and everyone will do what I say, or else!"

The Activity
No mermaid party would be complete without a dip under the sea -- er, in the kiddie pool. I'm making sure she's dressed for the occasion with this Hatley swimsuit ($15).

The Entertainment
Let's face it -- my son will want something to do at this party too. He can keep the troops entertained by adding these finger puppets ($10) to his existing home theatre and flair for the dramatic.

We'll be transforming our yard into Ariel's Grotto, using tissue paper as water, clear balloons as bubbles and streamers as seaweed. I was thinking of live goldfish as favours, but then I thought better of it (the kids would love it, the parents would hate me).Twitter suggested goldfish crackers and Go Fish cards instead. Phew!
