SweetMama on the Marilyn Dennis Show
silver spoons: live happy canada
(Jan.03.11)
Happy New Year everyone! Last week, while I was mulling over resolutions and mantras for 2011, I came across a great one. It's the tagline for the new Marilyn Dennis Show: live happy.
I had the great pleasure of meeting Marilyn, one of my media icons, at a recent preview for her new show, which starts Monday, January 10 at 10am on CTV. The new set and roster of young, fresh regular contributors (including DailySqueeze.ca holistic nutritionist Meghan Telpner) got me excited to see what they have in store for viewers. When I asked Marilyn what viewers could expect, she replied, "It's very fluid. Every day it's a changing thing. If we plan something one day and somebody really famous comes in and wants to do something, we'll move things around to make that work."
"It's about lifestyle, it's about great information and at the end of the day, even though we'll touch on subjects that are difficult from time to time, it really is about fun."
Having raised a great son into adulthood as a single mom with a demanding, but rewarding job, Marilyn knows all about the ups and downs most of us face, and then some. So what's her advice for this new generation of moms on how to "live happy?"
"I wish I had done this before, but just to enjoy that time with my son a little bit more and know that the laundry will get done at one point, that the food doesn't have to be perfect. Don't try to be this magazine picture perfect mom, or professional mother. Be who you are. It doesn't have to be perfect."
And she was quick to add, "If you are lucky enough to have a wonderful partner in your life, pay attention to that partner, because that partner's the one who can help you with this child, or these two children or four children — you're not the only one. And if you are the only one, that's the time to utilize that community of friends that can help you, because, as they say, it takes a village."
A good reminder for all of us. Marilyn hopes that as we tune in, we'll look to her as a friend surrounded by people who know what they're talking about and use her show as a resource. She doesn't want to send home the message that we need to be perfect, she wants to help us to be our best selves. "Live happy! You can live negatively if you want to, but that gets you absolutely nowhere."
True enough.
I'm excited to add that we'll be on the Marilyn Dennis Show on occasion, talking trends and shopping for moms and kids (what we do best!). Our first segment is on Tuesday, January 18, so set your PVRs! Get more info on Marilyn's new show at www.marilyn.ca.
