Full disclosure: I was invited on a press trip (by the lovely people at Disney Parks) to experience the inaugural voyage of their new ship, the Disney Dream. In all honesty, I was skeptical. I didn't consider myself "a cruise person." Would we just be lazily sitting around in a pod like the people in Wall-E?
Of course, I should have realized that this was Disney, meaning everything would surpass my expectations. While people are quick to criticize Disney for the merchandising and consumerism, what most people overlook is what Disney actually sells: magic. The magic of giving an adult the feeling of being a child. The magic of having a smile on your face for days straight. The magic of making dreams come true (especially by employing people with big ideas and letting them execute them). Every single person that works for the organization ensures that you, no matter who you are, have a magical day. And in this age of me-first and cutbacks, that level of service is increasingly rare.
I know many of you are planning family vacations and wondering where to spend your hard-earned dollars. Have a look through my gallery to get my full review of the Disney Dream and see what features of the ship and cruise really impressed me.
