Should Breastfeeding Photos be Kept Private?
silver spoons: breastfeeding photos & social media canada
(May.04.11)

Remember when pregnant belly photos were considered risqué? It's true that motherhood is the great equalizer. Being pregnant, giving birth and nursing a child are humbling experiences. Maternity often takes the shyest of women and strips them of their modesty (once the whole hospital's seen your nether regions, why the need to hide?). Add to this that romantic new baby feeling, that surge of love and amazement at your own body (and maybe some hormones) and before you know it, you may have publicly posted a photo of yourself breastfeeding. (Ahem, just saying.)
Expectant mama, Hannah Sung of the Globe and Mail, recently wrote this piece claiming that breastfeeding photos are the mom trend of the moment. Apparently, some moms are hiring professional photogs to capture the wonderous moments of baby suckling at mama's breast.
Then there's Victoria's Secret model, Miranda Kerr, who has been posting photos of her gorgeous self nursing her beautiful Orlando Bloom baby on Twitter (and likely has many men wishing they could revert to infancy).
In the meantime, Facebook is still banning breastfeeding photos, deeming them unsuitable for children.
So what do you think? Have you ever posted photos of yourself nursing on a social media site? Would you consider having professional photos taken during a feed?
