About Sweetmama Editor

Nadine Silverthorne’s love of journaling began in Grade One with the entry, “I am the greatest dancer!” Two babies (and countless diaper changes) later, she has found her home away from home as editor of SweetMama. Don’t miss her humorous bi-weekly accounts of the joys and pains of working while raising them fabulous.

What Are Dads Worth?

silver spoons: father's day 2011 canada (Jun.15.11)

A headline on Babble.com caught my eye yesterday: "Are Stay-At-Home-Dads Really Worth Only Half of Moms? Yes, Says New Survey." I had seen other articles stating that if you tallied up all the jobs that Stay-At-Home-Moms (SAHMs) do, they'd be earning over US $115K. Well, apparently a Stay-At-Home-Dad is a SAHD for a reason. According to a recent Salary.com calculation, his efforts would only earn about US $60K. (Apparently the discrepancy is due to the fact that the surveyed dads didn't count their time parenting while Mom was there as "on the clock.")

Regardless, we think dads are worth more than that. So much so that we've come up with umpteen different ways to honour him this Sunday. If you still need ideas, here's everything we've come up with (this year alone!) in one handy place. (For the record, this editor is always suffering from a bit of "the cobbler's kids have no shoes" syndrome: so many ideas for you! No gift for my husband yet!)
