Did You Have a Babymoon?

silver spoons: babymoons canada (Jun.29.11)

It seems everyone is scrambling to find new ways to market things to new parents and parents-to-be. A little while ago, I asked you about push presents, and while many of you like the thought of getting a sentimental gift after baby's birth, you also thought the trend was going to far (a $250,000 ring anyone?).

Now, the Trump Hotel Collection is offering a Babymoon Package for soon-to-be mamas and papas, who would like to spend much-needed quality time with each other before baby arrives (and changes EVERYTHING). This luxurious pamper package offers his and hers massages, breakfast for two, healthy mocktails and even custom prenatal pillows for a good night's sleep in your luxury hotel room. The two-night Babymoon Package is priced from $889, which sounds ridiculous, but isn't absolutely insane for a two-night, big city rate when you factor in the spa treatments, etc. (OK, maybe just a little when you factor in how broke you're about to become after Baby is born.)

I never took a babymoon before Nate arrived (though if I did, it's possible the memory of it went out with my placenta). But before Lucy arrived we did have a few child-free days at home (Nate was at Grandma's), waiting for contractions to get closer together. I made J take me out to dinner or brunch every day (it was an expensive week), because, as I would scream in crazed preggo mode, "This might be my last meal for a very long time!"

I like the idea of pampering a mom-to-be before Baby comes, or at least taking her out for a good meal (food never tasted as good as it did when I was pregnant!), but like push presents, I'm not sure of how I feel about making it an expected gesture.

What do you think? Did you take a babymoon? Are they pampering or pretentious?
