About Sweetmama Editor
Nadine Silverthorne’s love of journaling began in Grade One with the entry, “I am the greatest dancer!” Two babies (and countless diaper changes) later, she has found her home away from home as editor of SweetMama. Don’t miss her humorous bi-weekly accounts of the joys and pains of working while raising them fabulous.
5 Things I Will Miss About SweetMama
silver spoons: saying goodbye canada
(Jul.06.11)
A mama’s life is full of change. It starts with a changing body, continues on to kids walking, talking, going to school and someday *sniff* leaving home. Well this mama’s life is about to change too. After three years of working at the sweetest place on earth (it really is), I’m moving on. (Though it is my hope to make special guest appearances from time to time. Like Charo on The Love Boat.)
I have enjoyed writing and creating for all of you during this time. Telling you about my family, my woes as a parent and reading your comments in return, I really feel like we’ve built a community here and fortunately that spirit of sharing won’t be gone when I am. (I’ll be an avid reader/commenter!) I'm feeling reflective, so here are the 5 Things I Will Miss Most About SweetMama:
1. Being called SweetMama. “Hey SweetMama!” After three years, my name and the brand have become synonymous. (Unless my mother is in the room. Then she tells EVERYONE, “I am the SweetMama!”)
2. Random cupcakes. And chocolate. And cookies. It felt like someone was always baking and sharing. That’s one of the bonuses of a 99% female workplace. (Though my waistline will thank me.)
3. Working with amazing moms (and one Distracted Daddy!) across the country. From my freelancers who do the legwork in our other cities (you didn't think I did it all, did you?), to the mom entrepreneurs who shared their products and labours of love with me, I have met incredible people in this job, both virtually and face-to-face. It makes me proud to live in a country where women can support each other in their choices and help each other succeed.
4. Being surrounded by pink. Our offices at sweetspot.ca are pink and white. There is lovely chatter about shoes and nail polish and last night's TV. As a girly-girl, I've loved every moment of indulging my feminine side here.
5. Working with the sweetest team in the world. Besides points #2 and #4, I've had the good fortune of being inspired by smart and passionate individuals who are much deeper than the fun content we write about (or chat about). While it may have looked like I was doing everything, my incredible team (Sam, Mia, Jes, Emma, Bonnie, interns, to name a few) did a LOT of the writing, sourcing and editing of articles here as well. I have likened leaving this job to the night before I got married: while I'm happy to start a new journey, I'm sad to leave my family. Sweetspot has very much been my 2nd family for the past three years. *tear*
And I will miss YOU all. My faithful readers. Your comments and support have made me a better writer and often a better mom. You've watched my children grow on these pages as well as me, as a parent. Thanks for sticking by me. In the meantime, the search for a new SweetMama Editor is on. I'm certain you'll love her too. I'll be not too far away, over at our sister sites TodaysParent.com and CanadianParents.com as Managing Editor.
Stay sweet,
Nadine
