Four Fast Things for a Monday

canada (Dec.08.08)

I am writing this Sunday night into the first hour of Monday. I put both kids to bed by myself and this is a huge challenge -- I'll address the details of that in a future post. Regardless, my brain activity is a flatline. Here are four (not even five!) things worth mentioning that won't be taxing on your brain.

1. Ding dong them Bratz are dead. A judge ruled that those too-sexy dolls gotsta go, after Mattel sued the guy who invented them for intellectual property theft, claiming he came up with the idea on company time. Many moms are doing a dance of joy, while eBay-ers are snapping them up in record number, hoping they'll become a collectible item.

2. PTPA Media announces Fall 2008 winners. Parent-Tested, Parent-Approved, this list always has some great finds (including a few that are on my editorial calendar right now, waiting to be reviewed on Sweetmama).

3. Sweetmama.ca launches Facebook Group.
Just when you thought there wasn't a single other FB group you could possibly want to join, we made one. But seriously, join! Because we'll be telling you about great sales, contests and events, things that miss our Guide to the Sweet Life because we find out about them too late. Plus lots of other exciting things to come in 2009. Go join now -- if your boss catches you on Facebook, you can have him or her call me.

4. Holiday Countdown: Santa Photos. I had two days off last week and took one of them to head to the Eaton Centre for the obligatory Santa photos. Last year's photo was taken at Gerrard Square with the scariest Santa ever. It did not go well.

We vowed that we would head to the Eaton Centre, where they have a pretty real looking Santa, with a real beard, who is good with kids and not just doing community service. I even managed to get the kids dressed up (quite a feat, considering I'm the only one in the household that seems to understand the merits of donning your "Sunday best"). After last year's debacle, we had to prepare Nervous Nate for what was to come.

Me: "Do you want to talk to Santa? He looks like a cool guy, huh?"
Nate: "I'm too shy to talk to Santa. It's making my tummy hurt."

He warmed up to the idea once he saw the giant basket of candy canes at Santa's feet and happily sat on the big guy's lap, asking for Lego Batman and other expensive choking hazards. But the picture? Priceless.
