If we end up at one more fitness class with a 95-pound instructor (who wouldn’t know a stretch mark from a Spandex miniskirt) we’ll throw down our hand weights and refuse to play.
But we’re always willing to play with Tonia Wood of Physio-Active. A local physiotherapist, the mother of four young kids (with a fifth on the way), and owner of a pretty rockin’ athletic body, Wood has created unique fitness programs targeted to moms and mamas-to-be.
Her Moms of Steel program ($250 for six-weeks of bi-weekly stroller classes) offers new moms the things we really care about post-delivery. Motivational workouts designed to improve strength and flexibility, a chance to meet other moms and a “bring your baby” requirement? We’re so there.
For those of us with another wee ’un on the way, we’re signing up for the fall session of Ms. Wood’s Prenatal Fitness ($95 for first four weeks) – a group class designed to prepare us for the birthing process and post-partum recovery.
And when we need motivation, we just need to look to our fit, triathlon-competing instructor – who is now well into her second trimester.
