Shoe In

Toronto (Jan.10.08)

If our wee bundle is too young to walk, why is he so good at taking off his own shoes?

Active Image  Lucky for us, the last time our tiny tyke squirmed his toes out of his booties we happened to be at the Skydome Pow Wow - and within arms reach of Quemeez Moccasins' sales booth. These Algonquin-made baby moccasins ($40) are fashioned with love by local artist Quem Tenasco-Brazeau. And boy, does it show. Not only is her bead work stunning (think everything from floral to Medicine Wheel designs) but the buckskin used is soft to our baby's touch.

What we love best (only slightly more than the budget-friendly price) is the elastic grip around the ankle that keeps footwear firmly on our infant's foot. And since our little guy is so fond of tossing other articles of clothing, we decided to stock up on Quem's darling collection of beaded hats ($60), mitts ($40) and soother holders ($25).

No more trips to the lost and found for this mama.
