No Second Fiddle

Vancouver (Aug.08.07)

We were thrilled when Junior requested to learn the violin – but the thought of him learning under an uptight, strict taskmaster (ah, memories of childhood) had us ducking for cover. Violin and FiddleWhen we finally opened our eyes, we found the bubbly instructor extraordinaire Ajineen Sagal. Her philosophy is to make learning the violin and fiddle fun (no joke). Her process? Consider it 'the greatest hits' taken from the Suzuki Method (by ear), Classical, and Fiddle. It's nothing but giggles and jamming during her sessions ($25/class). Her fantastic ability at fostering relationships with students (ages three to adult) is apparent during her biannual Fiddle Party (no anxiety-ridden recitals for her students). There's no pressure to play, but thanks to the fun atmosphere, everyone always does.

(Which means we have to pack the tissues. Nothing will melt our heart more than watching our wee bub play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.)
