We don’t often (OK, ever) take our kids strolling alongside the Thames or hop into a gondola to grab Friday night pizza – and yet we’re often told our little cherubs look like they belong on a European postcard.
We’re almost reluctant to give up our secret, but here it is. We’ve been shopping at Gretchen & Co., a Toronto boutique – and now online store shipping across Canada – which showcases designer children’s clothing with the kind of high-quality craftsmanship and sophisticated European design you can usually only find across the pond. It’s never been easier to infuse trendsetting style into our children’s wardrobes.
Maybe a little too easy, our accountant might argue. On a recent virtual shopping spree, our little girl chose the perfect piano recital outfit: an I Love Gorgeous yellow sundress with silver bodice ($130). Her brother will sport an impeccable, yet casual, Scotch & Soda collared shirt, ($89). And since we were online anyway, we couldn’t resist an adorable pink flowered dress for our little niece from Dutch designer Imps & Elfs ($59).
So what if our summer doesn’t include a European vacation? Now that we have access to the same designer labels, we can make believe the backyard is Hyde Park and the bakery down the street is our own Parisian patisserie.
