Since becoming pregnant, I’m having huge problems with oily hair, dry skin and stretch marks. What’s the story and how do I fix this?

Hair
In general, hair doesn’t fall out as regularly during a pregnancy, which is why many women find their hair to be thicker. The extra hair could be the reason for the added oil.
- Pay special attention to the root area when shampooing your hair.
- Only pull conditioner through the ends instead of massaging it from scalp to tip.
- You also want to be careful not to over-wash your hair, as that can increase oil production to compensate for the dry scalp.
Dry Skin and Stretch Marks
Dry skin is generally a result of the dehydration and stretching of the skin that comes with pregnancy.
First and foremost, drink lots of water. The body gives your growing baby what it needs first and you second, so be sure to stay hydrated.
Stretch marks are a near guarantee if skin is not cared for properly during a pregnancy (especially during the first trimester). It’s estimated that up to 90 per cent of women are prone to developing stretch marks in pregnancy.
Again, I encourage all of my models to moisturize regularly. Minimizing stretch marks really comes down to promoting the elasticity of the skin, so that it can stretch without causing the little tears that result in stretch mark scars. Use a doctor-recommended product twice a day around the belly, breasts and thighs — areas that are typically prone to developing stretch marks — before, during and after your pregnancy.
Liza Ramirez began as a professional model. After becoming pregnant in 2002, Liza founded Expecting Models in New York City and discovered a huge demand for her services. Today she counts Old Navy, Liz Lange, Pea in the Pod, Bloomingdale’s and many others as clients.
