Jamie Sale

sweetmamas we love canada (Feb.12.10)

SweetMama We Love: Jamie Salé
Hometown: Edmonton, Alberta
Mom to: Jesse (age 2)
Also known as: Canada's Sweetheart and 2002 Olympic Figure Skating Gold Medalist (along with husband David Pelletier), Battle of the Blades winner (with hockey player Craig Simpson), Pampers Dry Max spokesperson

We're pretty sure we'd have our passports revoked if we didn't LOVE figure skating. We can still remember how we felt when Salé and Pelletier were robbed of their gold medal. Better yet, we can still feel the pride as they finally took home their well-deserved gold one. We do know we're feeling very honoured, patriotic and emotional to host the Olympics in Vancouver tonight, and we feel the exact same way to be hosting Jamie on our site today.

SM: Are you excited about the Olympics? What's next for you?

We’re really excited to be in Vancouver – it will definitely be hectic, but so exciting to watch our athletes compete at home. Once the Games are done, David and I will begin touring with Stars on Ice – our new choreography is amazing! Once things slow down, I’d be interested in exploring other opportunities, owning my own business is definitely something I’d like to try.

SM: What’s your secret to raising them fabulous?
We encourage Jesse to run around, play, jump, shout – be as active as possible. We don’t want to block his imagination or creativity – we love watching him play uninhibited. It’s an amazing thing to see what he comes up with!

SM: What’s been your biggest challenge in balancing motherhood and the other parts of yourself (work, me-time, touring, etc.)?
Time! Our schedules keep us so busy! We travel often, so it’s very important to keep Jesse in a routine.

SM: Knowing what you know now, what’s the one thing you wish you could tell all new moms or moms-to-be?

Not to stress over trying to be perfect or how long your baby "has to breastfeed." With Jesse, I realized quickly that each child is different and will dictate what he or she needs and wants. You’ll lose a lot of sleep stressing about how it should be instead of accepting and working through the way it is!

What is the one item you can’t live without for yourself?

Do I have to name just one?! Crest toothpaste with whitener is a must for me. (*Ed. Note: Salé and Pelletier are sponsored by Crest. But with her signature winning smile, we see why Jamie loves her toothpaste!)

What is the one item you can’t live without for your children?

I love new Pampers with Dry Max!* Jesse is a very active child – he’s in gymnastics, skating and loves to play. The diaper is so thin that it doesn’t take up too much room in our travel bags and keeps Jesse dry and comfortable during his activities.
