While she got a bit of a grand introduction over on our big sister site, SweetLife, we have yet to formally introduce you to our new SweetMama at the top, Liza Cooperman. Working in journalism for 13 years as a writer and editor, Liza helped launch properties such as Hello! Canada magazine and The National Post, where she also served as Books Editor for four years. She now helms the editorial division at the sweetest spot in the land (and we're thrilled about that!).
SM: What’s your secret to raising them fabulous?
Be your kids’ biggest cheerleader and celebrate the small stuff. Let them be independent by encouraging them to discover and explore and let them get messy in the process – it’s all part of the fun.
SM: What’s been your biggest challenge in balancing motherhood and the other parts of yourself (work, me-time, touring, etc.)?
Eliminating the guilt factor; recognizing that “me” time (whether it’s indulging in a mid-afternoon manicure, a regular girls nights out – or simply a solo trip to the grocery store!) is valuable and can sometimes make you a better parent.
SM: Knowing what you know now, what’s the one thing you wish you could tell all new moms or moms-to-be?
It goes by quickly, so enjoy the ride. And pick your battles – I promise you she won’t walk down the aisle with a pacifier in her mouth! Give your kids time to get to where they need to be on their own terms – it will mean far fewer tears (for both of you!)
What is the one item you can’t live without for yourself?
