SweetMama We Love:  Sundi Hoffman
Hometown: High River, AB
Mom to: Kael (7) and Kohen (4) and we are in the process of adopting one more!
Also known as: Founder and President of Bugalug, a popular kids' accessories line.

SM: Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m 33 years-old, the mom to two crazy boys and the owner and founder of Bugalug Inc. Bugalug has been a wonderful outlet for my creative side and it has been such a blessing to have my children watch first-hand at how hard I have to work to get where I am. I truly believe that, if nothing else, owning Bugalug has taught my children that with a lot of hard work and determination, you can do anything you want and be successful at it.

SM: What’s your secret to raising them fabulous?
I give my children a lot of room to grow and play. I believe that children need to learn to work things out amongst themselves and these days, too many parents step in too quickly.

SM: What’s been your biggest challenge in balancing motherhood and the other parts of yourself (work, me-time, touring, etc.)?
Learning how to “close the door” to the office. There are many times I know I should be spending time with my family, but I can’t enjoy family time until I’ve wrapped up those few things that are on my mind. Sometimes I wonder if all the worrying about the business is worth it, but then my son will yell out in the mall “look mom, she’s got your bug in her hair!” And I know they are proud of me and can accept the challenges and sacrifices better than I sometimes can.

SM: Knowing what you know now, what’s the one thing you wish you could tell all new moms or moms-to-be?

You don’t need it all. I think my biggest mistake being a new mom was that I thought I needed ALL these fancy things for my baby. We spent $3000 in one day just buying stuff. I used about ¼ of it. Ask your friends what their favourite items were and then see if you can borrow some of these items. Save your money for having wonderful portraits done or taking them on family outings – the really important “stuff.”

What is the one item you can’t live without for yourself?

My Tassimo! Every morning I wake up and make myself an Earl Grey tea with a splash of International Delight’s Fat-Free French Vanilla. I’ve even taken it to hotels with me!

What is the one item you can’t live without for your children?

Being a thrifty mother of two boys, I could NOT live without Value Village! My youngest puts holes in the left knee of every pair of pants, so I stock up here at $2-$5/pair!
