SweetMama We Love: Gretel Meyer Odell

Also known as: Founder and designer of Fancy Pants Kids (one of our favourite places to get costumes).
We got to know Gretel when she sent us some of her infamous Fancy Pants Kids Dragontails in kid and adult sizes (which we totally sported for Halloween last year). Gretel grew up on an organic family farm and has a background in professional theatre production. Several years ago, she started making dress-up accessories for her two sons and as gifts for others, which soon became a successful business. With incredible quality and design, we love that these costumes are loved by our kids year-round (and not just tossed aside after the 31st). With the big season coming up, we thought we'd get Gretel before her busiest season (and get our readers thinking about Halloween!).
SM: What’s your secret to a fabulous Halloween costume?
Time restraints! Somehow the rush of having a costume idea and trying to pull it off at the last minute with whatever you have at your fingertips is what makes for great costume magic and fun. My kids and I are always pleased and proud with the costumes that we pull together using stuff from around the house and a box and some tin foil!
SM: You have three hours, child-free — what would you do?
Frankly, I'd probably work, but how I long for an unhurried, quiet dinner at a nice restaurant with my husband!
SM: Knowing what you know now, what’s the one thing you wish you could tell all new moms or moms-to-be?
You have super powers. Seriously.
What is the one item you can’t live without for yourself?

What is the one item you can’t live without for your children?

Tail Wags helmet covers are pure genius! My boys never resist wearing their helmets and I love that total strangers smile as we pass on our bikes. Another great Canadian product!
