About The Book Fairy
A career Children’s Librarian, the Book Fairy (a.k.a. kittenpie) has worked in library systems in both New York and Toronto. She’s thrilled to have another place to share the books she loves without creeping people out the way she does at the bookstore.

Babies need books, too! Here's a sweet new addition to your baby bookshelf, and a pair of funny new Boynton boards for baby to chew on while you read.
Bears on Chairs, by Shirley Parenteau, ill. David Walker
Four bears have four chairs, and everything is just ducky - until a fifth and bigger bear shows up. what to do?
This book features almost entirely words rhyming with bear and chair, meaning that it has an inherently limited vocabulary, perfect for the very small or early readers. it is short, simple and sweet, with images that are pastel enough to near the limits of my cute tolerance, but not quite push past it. It's a charmer.
Night-Night, Little Pookie and
Let's Dance, Little Pookie, by Sandra Boynton
Everyone's favourite board book author has got to be Sandra Boynton. She's funny, she rhymes, she tucks little lessons in vocab and concepts into her cartoon-inspired books effortlessly. Oh yeah, and she's got rhythm. Who could ask for anything more?
These new board books feature a little pig whose small asides and abilities seem to place him as a preschooler, but he is adorable enough to be a toddler. He and his mother, who clearly have a special bond, share short, simple, fun moments in each of these, making them a joy to share in turn with your own little one.
In Let's Dance, Pookie's mom gets him all ready to go (with shoes and all), and leads him in doing a fun series of movements that will get the wiggles out of any little kid, and any but the most reluctant of kids are pretty sure to follow along with the infectious rhythm.
In Night-Night Pookie, Pookie's mama calls him for bed, employing a lot of those tricks that mamas use to move things along -- offering a choice of PJs, letting him wash her nose, too, and so on. A flurry of goodnight kisses on ears, nose, and eyes, and then a goodnight rhyme have the feel of a sweet bedtime ritual, and could inspire one of your own. This may just replace one of her other bedtime books as a favourite.
What are some of your favourite baby books?
