The 10 Things I Learned This Year

top 10 ask an expert postscanada (Dec.28.10)

As the editor of the Ask an Expert column, I've picked up a few tips and tricks over the years. Having edited 312 expert posts, I have definitely uncovered a few secrets. Here are the top 10 things I learned on SweetMama in 2010:
  1. The difference between a Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) and a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). Don't know? Read this.

  2. Warning kids that they will have to do something before they actually have to will make the transition easier on you (and them).

  3. Pack essentials in your carry-on bag when you travel. If your luggage gets lost (which trust us, happens), you'll be prepared.

  4. How to get your toddler to smile for the camera (and it doesn't include going to a professional photographer).

  5. If you fight in front of your kids in the right way, you can teach them valuable life lessons.

  6. The truth about microwaving plastics.

  7. You can help your kids become readers just by doing a few simple things.

  8. The age when opposite sex siblings should not share a room or bathe together anymore.

  9. Food colouring and dyes have been linked with ADD and ADHD.

  10. Some resorts are actually better for families. Check out our picks for five of the best family-friendly vacation spots.

Here's to a great 2010, and an even better 2011. Happy holidays to you and yours.
