Your Top 10

week of november 1stcanada (Nov.01.10)

You’re more likely to work out with a buddy, right?

Well, you’re more likely to save money with some support, too.

Your Top 10 is a weekly feature that shares 10 money-savvy tips – contributed by our sweet and centsible readers. In no particular order, check out this week’s real-life reader suggestions (and come back next week to check out 10 more!).

  1. Our local library does free movie days for kids.  Sometimes even providing a free slice of pizza.  And noone cares if your baby is crying because other babies are crying as well and kids are walking about.  That would never happen at a regular movie theatre.  All for free. – Tricha

  2. Call your credit card company and ASK for a lower interest rate. You'd be surprised what they will do to keep your business! – anousht

  3. Instead of buying prepackaged cookies, etc. for treats, make a treat of it by baking some nutrious, homemade treats with your children.  Not only will you save money, you get to ensure their treats are good for them, plus you and they get the benefit of spending some quality time with each other doing something fun and healthy at the same time. - SaucyGirl65

  4. What I do to save money as well as help the environment, is re-using brown parcel packages that I receive in the mail. – lulumelon

  5. Everytime I crave a fast food meal, I make myself stop and think; "Can I make something just as tasty at home?  For less money and for better nutritional value?"  The answer is almost always 'yes'.  Save $ and stick to your diet! – lsoldan

  6. Always take reusable grocery bags with you while going shopping instead of spending money on plastic bags. – moviefreak

  7. Fill up your travel mug at home instead of buying your coffee on the way to work. – dimifrandz

  8. Grow your own vegetable garden. And can/freeze your veggies. This does save a lot of money from your grocery budget. Save the seeds for next year too! – frester

  9. Everything in moderation! – lainah

  10. I try to save a little money here and there, this is one of my tips.  I purchase body sprays for a dollar at the dollar stores and use them for air fresheners in the bathroom or wherever you like.  They smell nice and are a lot cheaper than some air freshener products. – Justrose
